Guernsey, Channel Islands Scene Guernsey is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy that is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a British Crown Dependency. It is the second largest of the Channel Islands, an island group roughly north of Saint-Malo. The jurisdiction consists of ten parishes on the island of Guernsey, three other inhabited islands (Herm, Jethou and Lihou), and many small islets and rocks. It is not part of the United Kingdom, although defence and some aspects of international relations are managed by the UK. Although the bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey are often referred to collectively as the Channel Islands, the "Channel Islands" are not a constitutional or political unit. Jersey has a separate relationship to the Crown from the other Crown dependencies of Guernsey and the Isle of Man, although all are held by the monarch of the United Kingdom.

Climate: Winter, from December to February, is quite cold: temperatures are not too low, but wind and humidity can increase the sensation of cold. The sky is often cloudy, and rainfall is frequent. Sometimes, intense Atlantic depressions can cause wind storms. Snowfalls are relatively rare. Cold spells are not intense and do not last long. The temperature rarely drops below -3°C although the coldest record is -7.8°C set in January 1963. In spring, from March to May, the temperature rises slowly and Atlantic fronts become a bit less frequent. In May, it is often still quite cold, especially in the first half of the month. Summer, from June to August, is cool, with occasional rain and sometimes fog can form. Hot days may reach 25°C and it can sometimes exceed 30°C. The highest record is 32.5°C and was set in August 1990 and in July 2016. Autumn, from September to November, is gray, cloudy and rainy with each passing week getting progressively colder. In November, the wind is often moderate or strong.
